FAQ
What’s the difference between PhotoLite, PhotoStage and PhotoSpin?
PhotoLite is intended for on-location use, so you can take it with you and use it anywhere you like. It does not include a backdrop, since it is assumed that you will photograph your subject against the surrounding background.
PhotoStage is intended for studio use, and includes a large backdrop against which you can photograph your subject. This backdrop element is necessary for PhotoStage to work.
PhotoSpin is also for studio use, but is a more advanced system that allows you to resize and rotate the backdrop to suit the particular demands of your shot.
Can I upgrade from PhotoLite to PhotoStage, or from PhotoStage to PhotoSpin?
No. They are separate products with separate upgrade paths.
However, you can buy PhotoLite and PhotoStage as the PhotoTools Pro bundle at a significantly discounted price.
What are the permissions for your products?
All AMS products are copy, modify, no-transfer.
How can I give PhotoSpin, PhotoStage, PhotoLite or PhotoTools Pro to someone as a gift?
If you would like to buy AMS products to give them as gifts, please use the online store SL Marketplace. This site has a feature that allows you to buy items and send them as gifts to others.
Where can I buy your products?
All AMS products are available for purchase from the AMS @ Lady Vale (Lady Vale 112, 240, 301) or AMS @ Smaug (Smaug 220,232, 33), or the online store SL Marketplace.
Why are the prices for products sold inworld different from those on SL Marketplace?
There are additional costs involved in operating a store on SL Marketplace. It seems only fair to pass these costs along to Marketplace shoppers, rather than charging inworld shoppers more. To save some money, please visit one of the stores inworld at AMS @ Lady Vale (Lady Vale 112, 240, 301) or AMS @ Smaug (Smaug 220,232, 33).
How do I get the latest version of my product?
PhotoStage, PhotoLite, and PhotoSpin support automatic updates. This means that they will check for new versions every time you reset them or use the manual update feature. Please refer to your User’s Manual for specific instructions on how to do this. You can also look at this tutorial.
Note: you will receive the latest version of PhotoStand II whenever you update PhotoSpin, PhotoStage or PhotoLite.
Are the backdrop textures included with PhotoStage and PhotoSpin?
Yes. All the backdrop textures that you can see on the demonstration studios at the AMS stores are included when you buy PhotoStage or PhotoSpin. Of course, you can also add your own textures.
Are the modelling poses included with Photospin, PhotoStage or PhotoLite?
Yes. The modelling poses that you can see with the demo PhotoStand II at the AMS stores are included when you buyPhotoSpin, PhotoStage or PhotoLite.
Note: From time to time we may display additional poses for demonstration or promotion purposes. In those cases we will make it clear that those poses are not part of PhotoSpin, PhotoStage or PhotoLite.
The menus are very deep and complex. Is there an alternative method to using PhotoSpin, PhotoStage or PhotoLite?
Yes. A HUD is included in the package. Wear the HUD and you will be able to control PhotoSpin, PhotoStage or PhotoLite without the need of the menus.
A chat interface is also available for PhotoSpin, PhotoStage and PhotoLite, allowing you to control these systems by typing commands in the chat area.
Check the User’s Manual of your product for detailed instructions about the HUD and the chat interface (note: chat interface manual for PhotoSpin will be available soon).
The PhotoStage or PhotoLite menus or HUD seem to be stuck. What can I do?
This is an issue with PhotoStage or PhotoLite version 1.1.0 and older. Newer versions are not affected by this problem.
The different scripts in your PhotoStage or PhotoLite Control Box use messages to exchange information. Sometimes, SL just “eats” one of these messages, causing, among other things, the menus to get stuck. When this happens, you will observe that the expected popup menu does not appear when it should, or that HUD buttons stop working.
To solve this you need to reset the scripts in the Control Box. Follow these steps:
-
Edit the Control Box by right-clicking it and selecting Edit from the pie menu. An Edit window appears.
-
Go to the Tools menu, at the top of your screen, and click Reset Scripts in Selection.
-
Close the Edit window.
Also, please make sure that the Description field of the Control Box is blank. If it isn’t, please delete any text in it and leave it empty.
You will see some messages on the chat channel as the scripts in the Control Box reset. Wait a few seconds and try using it again. It should work now!

when I stand on the PhotoStand II my feet are in the stand how can I raise them so they are above the stand???

Thanks for your question, Chloe. To deal with poses that make your feet go into the stand, simply ‘hide’ the stand. To do this: (1) Touch (right-click) the PhotoStand; (2) Click the ‘Hide’ button on the Main menu. This will make the stand disappear (it’s still there, just invisible). Please note that this is a toggle button, which will toggle to ‘Show’ when the stand is hidden. When you click it again, the stand will reappear, and the button will toggle back to ‘Hide’.
