Organizing Textures

Adding or Removing Textures

The PhotoSpin Pro backdrop comes stocked with a good variety of textures, but you can add or remove textures to suit your needs. Follow these steps to add textures, or remove existing ones:

  1. Edit the PhotoSpin Pro Backdrop by right-clicking it and selecting Edit in the popup menu. An Edit window appears.
  2. Click the Content tab. You will see all the textures currently available. You will also see other items here that are not textures. Be careful not to change, delete or rename these items; doing so could cause your backdrop to malfunction.
  3. To add a texture, drag it from your inventory and drop it on the list. To remove a texture, right-click it and select Delete in the menu.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the Backdrop to re-load the texture list.
  5. Note: to keep textures organized in the Backdrop Content folder, it is best to rename the texture with the Texture Group name first, followed by the specific texture name; for example: “LeeZu! Audrey” rather than just “Audrey”. Doing this will keep all the textures assigned to a specific group together in the Backdrop Content folder, making it much easier to find them when needed. See Naming Textures below for more information.

You can add any texture you like to your PhotoSpin Backdrop. However, if a texture is not of the “seamless” variety, the texture’s seams may be visible on the backdrop. For the best background effect, use seamless textures. You can also use the 0 tile setting to apply a non-seamless texture to the entire backdrop.

Important: Textures with no-transfer permissions will not work with PhotoStage. This is caused by a programming bug within Second Life itself, as documented in JIRA entry SVC-368. Please use transferrable textures only.

Increasing Texture Limits

You can load an unlimited number of textures into the PhotoSpin Pro backdrop. PhotoSpin Pro uses special scripts to process texture names and assign them to the backdrop and HUD. These special scripts are labelled “Group db” and each one can process approximately 750 textures. The PhotoSpin comes with 4 “Group db” scripts already installed, and therefore supports up to 3000 separate textures.

If you want to expand the number of textures available, simply copy additonal “Group db” scripts into the Contents folder of the PhotoSpin Pro backdrop. A “Group db” script is provided in the folder delivered with your PhotoSpin Pro purchase.

  1. Edit the PhotoSpin Pro Backdrop.
  2. Click the Content tab.
  3. Locate the “Group db” script in the PhotoSpin Pro folder in your Inventory.
  4. Copy the “Group db” script to the Contents folder in the PhotoSpin Pro Backdrop.
  5. Copy as many “Group db” scripts as needed to support the number of textures you wish to load. Each “Group db” script supports approximately 750 textures.

Creating Texture Groups

To create a new texture group:

  1. Edit the PhotoSpin Pro Backdrop.
  2. Go to the Content tab. Open the notecard labelled “#grouplist – Texture Groups 03”. You will see a list of existing groups and the textures assigned to each group.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the list. On a new line, type “Group:” followed by the name of the new group you want to create, i.e. Group:New Group. Do not put any spaces directly before or after the colon.
  4. Below the group name line, list all the textures you want to include in this group. Type the name of each texture on a new line, exactly the same as the name appears on the texture itself, as shown in the sample below.
  5. To obtain a list of all the textures in the Backdrop Content folder, type “/81 bd.txlist” into Open Chat. A complete list of textures will be sent to Open Chat, making it easy to copy and paste the texture names to the group list notecard.
  6. To assign a texture image to appear on the HUD display (see PhotoSpin Pro HUD Manual), type “GroupTexture:Texture Name” on a new line immediately below the Group Name (i.e. “GroupTexture:LeeZu! Audrey” in the sample below).
  7. Save the notecard. The Backdrop will reset and load the new texture groups and textures into the system.

Naming Textures

To keep textures organized in the Backdrop Content folder, rename each texture with the Texture Group name first, followed by the specific texture name; for example, “LeeZu! Audrey” rather than just “Audrey”. This keeps all the textures assigned to a specific group together in the Backdrop Content list, making them much easier to find when needed.

Texture names are displayed both on the menu buttons and on the HUD.  To keep the display names short and clear, PhotoSpin Pro allows you to define display names different from the full texture inventory names.

To define display names:

    • Edit the PhotoSpin Pro Backdrop, go to the Contents tab, and open the “#grouplist – Texture Groups 03” notecard.
    • Choose one of the following two methods for defining display names.
    • After the inventory texture name, type ## and then type the display name:

    • Alternatively, place # signs on either side of text in the inventory texture name that you do not want to be included in the display name:

    • In the event that the inventory texture name itself contains # signs, then in the notecard replace each # in the inventory name with %23 to prevent them from being interpreted as display name delimiters:

    • Save the notecard when finished, and close the edit window. The PhotoSpin Pro will reset. The menus and HUD will now use the new display names.

Assigning Textures to Multiple Texture Groups

You can assign the same texture to more than one Texture Group.

  1. Edit the PhotoSpin Pro Backdrop, go to the Contents tab, and open the “#grouplist – Texture Groups 03” notecard.
  2. Scroll to the Texture Group you want, or create a new one.
  3. Write or copy the texture name into the Texture Group list.
  4. Use the # sign to define the display name you want for the texture.
